Dental Sealants in Pensacola, FL

A decaying tooth can be protected with dental sealants, which are an excellent option you can enjoy from our Comfort Dental Care and Orthodontics locations in Crestview, Pensacola, and Santa Rosa Beach.

What Are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants can help to prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar which can cause tooth pain or cavities. The primary purpose of dental sealants is to protect a tooth or teeth from decay, thus avoiding having to invest in costly crowns, dental implants, or a dental bridge later in life.

Dental sealants are typically made from a thin coating that is either clear or tooth-colored, and we carefully paint your sealant into the grooves of your teeth, effectively preventing bacteria and other debris from entering your tooth and thus accelerating the decaying process. After the sealant procedure has been completed, your tooth will then be exposed to a curing light that will help the sealant harden quickly.

Benefits of Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a great way to protect your teeth. If you are concerned about tooth decay or cavities impacting the quality of oral health for you or your children, dental sealants are an effective way to shield the teeth and provide an extra layer of protection against plaque build-up. This protective shield can last several months, but it is definitely not a substitute for regular brushing or flossing.

What Is the Procedure for Dental Sealants?

At Comfort Dental Care and Orthodontics, we believe in making the dental sealant procedure as comfortable and convenient as possible. During your procedure, first, your teeth and gums are thoroughly cleaned so as not to accidentally seal in bacteria. Then a special liquid is added to the teeth so that the sealant can properly attach, and a clear or tooth-colored sealant is painted directly onto your teeth. A special light is then used to harden the sealant so it acts as a barrier between your teeth and any food or debris that could cause decay.

Preparing for Dental Sealants

There is no special preparation necessary for dental sealants, other than scheduling your appointment now. You should brush and floss your teeth thoroughly before having dental sealant applied; however, we will also “buff” your teeth during the procedure so as to make it easier for the sealant to adhere to them. Each tooth can take approximately 3-5 minutes to properly seal, and a rubber dam may be used to help keep each tooth isolated as the dentist works.

Recovery from Dental Sealants

After your sealant is placed, we will ensure the sealant does not affect your natural bite, but you will not have any specific recovery considerations following your dental sealant treatment.

How Much Do Dental Sealants Cost?

Dental insurance may cover the cost of dental sealants so check in with your provider to determine whether or not this is covered under your plan. If your carrier does not cover the cost of sealants or you do not have dental insurance, Comfort Dental Careand Orthodontics offers convenient financing options through CareCredit® and OrthoBanc®.

Are Dental Sealants Right for Me?

During your consultation for dental sealants, we will carefully examine your mouth and teeth to determine the proper application of the sealant, in addition to answering any questions you may have and explaining each step of the process so you’ll know precisely what to expect.
