Teeth Extractions

At our Comfort Dental Care and Orthodontics locations in Crestview, Pensacola, Mary Esther and Santa Rosa Beach, we avoid extractions if at all possible.

What Is Tooth Extraction?

In certain situations when it’s necessary to preserve a patient’s oral health, Comfort Dental Care and Orthodontics provides extraction services. Tooth extraction is the careful removal of a tooth whether due to adult teeth coming in (in the case of baby teeth), for instances where disease or decay necessitate removal, or sometimes for other reasons, such as preparing a patient’s mouth for orthodontic appliances.

Benefits of Tooth Extraction

Sometimes tooth extraction is necessary to preserve the overall health of your teeth and mouth, and the procedure can have a number of benefits. Oftentimes, patients need extraction to facilitate the proper growth of adult teeth (in the case of baby teeth), or if they experience discomfort and require the removal of a diseased or decaying tooth, or to set up mouths for orthodontia such as braces.

What Is the Procedure for Tooth Extraction?

A simple extraction to remove a tooth is performed when a tooth can still be seen in the mouth. In the case of a simple extraction, an instrument called an elevator will be used to loosen your tooth, and then forceps are used to remove the tooth. If necessary, a surgical extraction is more complex and is used when a tooth may have broken off at or below the gum line or has not come into the mouth yet. We will make a small incision into your gum, and if you have a tooth that is impacted, we will skillfully cut away any gum or bone tissue that covers your tooth, and then using forceps, we will grasp the tooth and gently rock it back and forth to loosen and remove it.

Preparing for Tooth Extraction

During your consultation, notify us about any medications or supplements you take as some may interfere with the extraction of your tooth, especially blood-thinning medications.

Recovery from Tooth Extraction

Following your tooth extraction, you should focus on eating soft foods such as yogurt, pudding, applesauce, and soup before gradually moving up to more solid foods.

How Much Does Tooth Extraction Cost?

Our patient advocates will work with you to customize a treatment plan that fits your budget, needs, and expectations. Tooth extraction is generally covered by most insurance plans, so check with your provider to determine your eligibility. Dental insurance can help you to cover many of the costs of tooth extraction as dental health is essential to your overall health, but Comfort Dental Care and Orthodontics also works to provide patients with convenient financing options through CareCredit® and OrthoBanc®.

"Best dental service I have ever received. Made me, the customer, feel like their sole priority. Staff was engaging and knowledgeable, but more importantly did not mind spending the extra time to educate me about procedures/precautions. Outstanding."
